Vol. 311 No. 3

Written Answers. - Infant Death Examination.

155.

asked the Minister for Health if he has received a recommendation from the sub-committee of the Medico-Social Research Board set up to examine the problem of sudden infant death; the nature of the recommendation; and the action it is proposed to take.

I have received a report from the Medico-Social Research Board on the question of sudden infant deaths. It is recommended in this report that a prospective study of infant deaths, with particular attention to sudden infant deaths, should be set up. The details of this recommendation and the form which the study might take have been the subject of discussions between my Department and the board. The sub-committee of the board, who examined the problem of sudden infant deaths, will meet again shortly to review the board's recommendations in the light of these discussions.
