A number of Departments operate schemes under which community or recreational facilities, or both, can be provided if the projects conform to the conditions laid down in such schemes, that is the Youth Employment Scheme for Youth, Sport and Community Organisations administered by the Department of Education, the Community Youth Training Programme administered by An Chomhairle Oiliúna and the Environmental Improvement Schemes Programme administered by my Department. So far as I am aware, local authorities are the only source from which grants are made available specifically for the provision of community and recreational facilities.
Since local authorities make these grants from their own resources, there is no detailed information in my Department on their operation.
