Vol. 312 No. 8

Written Answers. - Kilmacud-Sandyford (Dublin) Road Junction.

171.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he is aware of (a) the dangerous nature of the new road junction between Upper Kilmacud Road and the new Sandyford Industrial Estate, Dublin; (b) the need for a pedestrian crossing to facilitate children from neighbouring estates who attend Saint Raphael's national school adjacent to the junction; and if he will provide any necessary moneys to Dublin County Council to have remedial work carried out.

The planning and execution of road improvements at this location are matters wholly within the discretion of Dublin County Council and would not require to be submitted for my sanction. Any such work would fall to be financed from the county council's own resources supplemented by the general (block) grant provided annually by my Department.

The provision of pedestrian crossings is also a matter for Dublin County Council at the request or with the consent of the Commissioner of the Garda Síochána.
