Vol. 313 No. 8

Irish Representatives to Council of Europe.

I wish to inform the House that the following persons have been selected and nominated as representatives and substitutes from Ireland to the 31st Ordinary Session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe which will open in Strasbourg on 7 May 1979. Representatives: Senator Willie Ryan, Deputies Edward Collins, Barry Desmond and Jimmy Leonard. Substitutes: Deputies Seán Calleary, Gerard Connolly, Oliver J. Flanagan and Patrick Hegarty.

I wish to raise on the adjournment the question of payment——

The Taoiseach running away from the House does not solve the problem.

I do not run away from anybody, least of all Deputy Cluskey.

With the permission of the Chair, I wish to raise on the Adjournment the question of payment of pensions to pensioners, particularly those in the State sector, for whom apparently no arrangements have been made. They are not getting their pensions because of the postal strike. Apparently they are expected to live on the wind.

I will communicate with the Deputy during the day.
