Applications for aid from the European Regional Development Fund are based not on proposals submitted to my Department by local authorities but on information supplied by the Government Departments responsible for the implementation of the public capital programme. In making their proposals Departments take fully into account all eligible projects, including those administered by the local authorities, and suitable projects are selected for submission for ERDF aid. It is necessary to make such a selection because the total value of eligible projects greatly exceeds our quota of the fund.
