asked the Minister for Health the routine health checks prevented from being carried out in Castlebar General Hospital, County Mayo due to lack of necessary equipment.

The Western Health Board are considering the purchase of certain items of equipment for Castlebar hospital in conjunction with the 1980 capital programme but the board are not aware that lack of equipment is preventing routine health checks being carried out at the hospital.

asked the Minister for Health the number of permanent nurses employed in Castlebar General Hospital, County Mayo, and when and by what number it is intended to increase this staff.

There are 142 permanent nurses employed in Castlebar General Hospital. Five additional permanent staff nurses are being recruited. Proposals for additional nursing staff will be considered in the context of the needs of the health services generally and the availability of resources for developments and improvements.
