Vol. 316 No. 8

Written Answers. - Donegal Town Vocational School.

428.

asked the Minister for Education if he has received representations protesting against the delay in the sanction of a tender received for the erection of a new vocational school in Donegal town and in view of the urgent need for additional educational facilities in the area if he will sanction one of the tenders submitted without further delay.

I am aware of the local concern about the delay in the acceptance of a tender for the erection of a new vocational school at Donegal town. It is, however, a matter for the County Donegal Vocational Education Committee, in the first instance, to select a suitable tender for the project. There is a difficulty in this regard in that two firms whose tenders were acceptable have withdrawn them and the vocational education committee are now in the position of having to consider the other tenders. I have had a discussion with a deputation from the VEC on the matter and I hope it will be possible soon to approve of the commencement of the work under an acceptable tender.
