Vol. 316 No. 9

Written Answers. - Post-Primary School Roll Books.

215

asked the Minister for Education if the roll-books of post-primary schools are checked by officials of his Department; if he is satisfied with their accuracy; if they give any indication of the rate of absenteeism among post-primary pupils; and the rate of absenteeism they indicate.

The roll-books of secondary schools are checked by officials of my Department, because the payment of capitation grant to those schools is dependent on the attendance of pupils.

The roll-books of other post-primary schools are not so checked, but they are subject to inspection and I have no reason to doubt the accuracy of any of the roll-books.

Absences of children are recorded on the roll-books, but the rate of absenteeism is not normally calculated.
