Vol. 317 No. 2

Written Answers. - Traffic Control and Regulation.

375.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he proposes to introduce legislation to curb the problem of juggernauts on main roads particularly in the context of small villages and towns.

I have no proposals to amend the Road Traffic Acts in so far as powers are already available for the control and regulation of traffic, including speed, weights and dimensions, and the parking of vehicles. With regard to the relief of traffic congestion in towns, I would refer the Deputy to Chapter 7 of the Road Development Plan for the eighties, which deals with traffic management and also indicates a range of proposals for new bridges and for bypasses of towns on the national road network.
