Vol. 318 No. 2

Written Answers. - Placement Officer Posts.

388.

asked the Minister for Labour (a) the number of placement officer posts in his Department; the number of those posts filled by (i) male and (ii) female officers; the number of male and female applicants for the 1979 competition and the number who were successful both male and female distinguishing between those reporting after the first calling and those from the extended list.

In answer to the first part of the Deputy's question, there are 150 placement officer posts in the National Manpower Service of my Department. At present there are 114 serving placement officers, of whom 102 are male and 12 are female.

It is assumed that the second part of the question refers to the confined competition for Placement Officers which was announced in August 1978 and from which the first appointments were made in December 1978. There were 232 eligible applicants at the competition, of whom 187 were male and 45 female.

From the first calling in December 1978, appointments were offered to 27 applicants, 24 male and 3 female. Subsequently appointments were offered to 17 applicants, 12 male and 5 female. Of the total of 44 applicants who were offered appointments, 30 male and 7 female accepted.
