Vol. 318 No. 7

Written Answers. - Bray (Wicklow) School Survey.

69.

asked the Minister for Education if his attention has been drawn to the survey carried out under denominational auspices in the Ballywaltrim area of Bray, County Wicklow in an apparent attempt to evalute parental preference on the management structure for the proposed second level school there; if he has satisfied himself that the methodology of the survey was sufficiently reliable to enable firm conclusions to be drawn from it; and if he will take steps to carry out a survey of local opinion on the matter in a manner which will not be open to methodological criticism.

I am aware of such a survey being carried out and I accept that it was undertaken for the purpose of affording an opportunity to parents to express their views in relation to the type of school which should be provided.

I propose to follow the usual procedure in this case of consultations to be arranged by officials of my Department with all interested parties for the purpose of enabling the appropriate decision to be taken in the matter of the type of school to be provided.
