Vol. 318 No. 7

Written Answers. - Meath Adult Education Pilot Scheme.

67.

asked the Minister for Education if an evaluation has been carried out of the County Meath Vocational Education Committee adult education pilot scheme launched in 1975, if so, the results of this, the relevance of this pilot scheme to the decision to appoint adult education officers and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Contact between officials of the Department of Education and the County Meath Vocational Education Committee and annual reports furnished on the management and progress of the scheme enabled the Department to evaluate the importance of the adult education pilot scheme in question.

The decision to make provision for the appointment of 50 adult education organisers was taken in the context of my awareness of the need for such provision. The experience of the operation of the pilot scheme in the County Meath VEC area was taken into account in assigning functions to the new appointees and in devising an appropriate appointment structure.
