20.

Mr. Barry and Miss Barry

asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry if his attention has been drawn to the severe losses suffered by fishermen by the destruction of their fishing boats on the night of a freak storm in March of this year in Ballycotton bay, County Cork, and if he will make financial aid available to them.

21.

asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry the steps he proposes to take to compensate the fishermen at Ballycotton, County Cork, for damage to their boats and fishing gear due to a recent severe storm.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 20 and 21 together.

I am aware that a number of vessels at Ballycotton, County Cork suffered damage due to a severe storm in March 1980. I regret that I have no funds at my disposal out of which I could make financial assistance available towards the cost of repairs.
