The quantity of intervention beef made available for processing under the special sale in September 1979 was 5,000 tonnes. Of this quantity, a total of 1,696 tonnes was purchased by Irish beef canners.
In the six months following the special sale, approximately 5,500 tonnes of canned beef was produced which was an increase of 50 per cent over the corresponding period in 1978-79.
