Vol. 321 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Written Answers. - Educational Research.

290.

asked the Minister for Education if he will state in relation to any sums being paid directly by his Department to individuals for educational research purposes:—(a) the name of the researcher; (b) the amount of the grant; (c) the research topic; (d) when the research will be concluded; and (e) whether the grant represents the total amount payable to the researcher, and, if not, the total amount involved.

Grants for educational research purposes are normally allocated to university departments, research agencies or other appropriate groups to aid specific research projects. The only individual to whom a grant is currently allocated for educational research is Professor J.V. Rice, School of Education, University of Dublin. The total amount of the grant is £4,500. The project relates to the design of instructional spaces. It is expected that the project will be concluded by the end of the current year.

It is assumed that the question does not relate to individuals who get grants under the following schemes: Senior Visiting Fellowships; Post-Doctoral Research Fellowships in Science and Engineering; Maintenance Allowances for Postgraduate Training in research in Pure Science and Engineering.
