asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is aware that a large number of farmers are currently facing acute credit difficulties likely to lead to forced sales of all or part of their farms in numerous cases leaving them without a means of livelihood; if he has had any discussions with any of the banks in regard to these credit difficulties; if so, when; with whom he met and the outcome; and if he himself has any proposals to alleviate the position of these farmers.

I am aware that, along with other sectors of the economy, farmers are facing difficulties in regard to the current credit situation. Officials of my Department have been in contact with the main lending instituations and the situation is under review at the present time.
