asked the Minister for the Environment if he is aware that Donegal County Council have received tenders for the erection of 178 houses in Moville, Carrigart, Trentagh, Donegal, Ballyshannon, Pettigo and rural cottages, and cannot enter into building contracts because finance has not been made available by his Department; and if he will sanction the estimated £2.7 million needed to commence the schemes.

In addition to the £1,850,000 allocated to them last March, Donegal County Council have requested a further £1,574,000 to finance new work in the current year on their housing programme, to be started before 31 July next. The schemes referred to by the Deputy are included in this application and I am aware that tenders have been received for the building of the houses.
The council's application for funds is being considered in conjunction with similar claims received from other housing authorities. I cannot say when I will be in a position to make a decision on the council's application.
