: As indicated in a reply dated 21 August 1980, to a letter from the Deputy, I have no proposals in mind for the remuneration of peace commissioners. I consider that persons appointed to the office of peace commissioner perform a useful service to members of the general public and the Garda Síochána, but I do not think that there has been any change in circumstances which would justify a departure from the practice which has always existed whereby their services are afforded without remuneration.
