Vol. 324 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Firhouse (Dublin) Sub-Post Office.

18.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he is aware of the inconvenience and hardship caused by the re-location of the sub-post office at Firhouse, County Dublin; if he will give the reason for this change; and the steps being taken to have it relocated at a more convenient place.

When the former postmaster at Firhouse resigned earlier this year, the vacancy was advertised and traders in the shopping centre, where the office was located, were canvassed. No-one from the shopping centre applied for the vacancy and in order to maintain counter services there was no reasonable alternative but to appoint the only suitable applicant. While the new post office is not as convenient for some people as the former was, it caters reasonably well for the area and in view of the recent appointment of the new postmaster there can be no question of re-locating the office at this stage.
