asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will list the number of advisory bodies set up by his Department and give details of the activities of these bodies and the budgetary provisions for each of them.

The information requested by the Deputy is set out in a tabular statement, which I propose, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to circulate with the Offical Report.

Budgetary Provisions

Post Office Users' Council

The council's function is to represent the needs and interests of users' of the Department's services. It considers complaints about the postal and counter services and the telephone, telex, telegram and data transmission services and makes representations on matters relating to these services, including matters brought to its notice by the public. The Minister also consults the council on matters affecting the interests of users' and advises the council on plans and projected developments for the service.

The Philatelie Advisory Committee

To advise the Minister on the nature and extent of the philatelic services which the Department should provide and on the measures necessary to develop further interest in Irish stamps and postal history.

The expenses relating to these bodies are relatively small and are charged to the subheads of the Department's Vote appropriate to such expenses.

The Stamp Design Advisory Committee

(i) To advise the Minister in regard to new designs for the permanent series of postage stamps and for such special stamps as may be issued from time to time, and

(ii) to procure suitable designs, as required, by advertisement or otherwise, and to recommend the most suitable designs.

Advisory Committee on Interference with Wireless Telegraphy

The Committee advises the Minister in regard to the making of regulations under section 12 (a) of the Wireless Telegraphy Act 1926 (as inserted by section 34 (c) of the Broadcasting Authority Act. 1960) and the consideration of representations referred to in sub-section 5 of that section.
