Vol. 325 No. 7

Written Answers. - North Donegal TV Reception.

403.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the plans his Department have for giving full coverage to north Donegal of channels 1 and 2 of Radio-Telefís Eireann, as the new transformer at Hollywell only gives limited signals to parts of the Inishowen peninsula; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

This is primarily a matter for RTE who say that the new high-power transmitter at Holywell Hill is providing a two channel colour service for a significant area of Inishowen. The remainder of the area is served by transposers at Fanad and Moville. RTE expect, subject to the successful international co-ordination of the necessary frequencies, that the Fanad transposer will be equipped to transmit RTE1 in colour before the end of January and RTE2 in colour next spring. RTE also plan to equip the Moville transposer to carry the full 625 line services to the remainder of Inishowen as soon as possible, but they cannot say at this stage when these transmissions will commence.
