asked the Taoiseach the latest annual trade figures for the balance of payments between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.

In the year 1980 the value of imports from Northern Ireland was £223.5 million while exports to Northern Ireland amounted to £300.3 million.

asked the Taoiseach if there is any trade between Cuba and Ireland; if so, the trade figures; and if he will give a list of the principal commodities.

Trade with Cuba has fluctuated in recent years.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to circulate in the Official Report a statement showing details of trade with Cuba in the years 1979, 1980 and in the period January-August, 1981.

In whose favour does the balance of trade lie? Can the Taoiseach give me a short list of the principal commodities involved?

The principal commodities involved are imports of molasses, cigars, cheroots and others; exports are butter, dried milk, motor car tyres and other items.

What are the figures?

In 1979 the total imports were £226,000 and the total exports £560,000. In 1980 the total imports were £1,459,000 and the total exports £9,935,000.
