Vol. 333 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tallaght (Dublin) Post Office.

20.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will now make arrangements to provide a post office in Springfield estate, Tallaght, County Dublin.

It is intended to provide a sub-post office to serve Springfield and adjoining areas when a central location for an office becomes available.

This estate is a thickly populated one which is being developed for many years. It is well past the time when this site should have been identified by the Department. Are there any realistic steps being taken to find a post office site for this densely populated area?

I am aware of the position in that area and assure the Deputy that I am treating this matter with the urgency it requires. The Deputy asked a question last December regarding the Fettercairn area and he received a reply to that. I will press my officials to give this matter the priority it deserves. I realise the growth there has been in this area and the need for such facilities.

Are any sites actually under consideration and, if so, where are they?

We are picking the site. I cannot indicate the exact location.

Is any site under consideration?

There are sites under consideration but I cannot indicate a specific site at this stage. If the Deputy puts down a question later I will give him more details of the exact location. In this question the Deputy did not ask for the specific location. However, I will try to get the information for him as quickly as possible.
