Vol. 333 No. 9

Written Answers. - Parcel Delivery.

522.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he is aware of the problem of a person (details supplied) in Dublin who posted a parcel which included clothes worth £70 for a child's First Communion on 1 May next; if he is aware that the parcel has not yet been delivered due to the postal dispute; and if he will take whatever steps are necessary to ensure that the clothes are made available to either the sender or the addressee immediately in view of the urgency of the case.

The registered parcel in question, which was posted on 29 March 1982 was delivered on 14 April 1982. The delay in delivery was caused by industrial action at Connolly Station which commenced on the night of 29-30 March 1982. It was necessary to suspend the parcel service as a large parcel arrears had developed during the first week of the dispute. These arrears were reduced as quickly as possible.
