asked the Minister for Health how many dental practitioners provide orthodontic treatment for Eastern Health Board patients in County Kildare.

Orthodontic treatment is provided to Eastern Health Board patients in County Kildare by the health board staff in the area which comprises one principal dental surgeon, three clinical dental surgeons, Grade II, and a private orthodontist who is employed by the health board on a sessional basis, patients from the area may also be referred to the Dublin Dental Hospital for orthodontic treatment.

asked the Minister for Health how many patients are on the waiting list for orthodontic treatment in County Kildare; and the reason the waiting list was closed recently.

There are 950 patients in County Kildare awaiting assessment of their need for and readiness for orthodontic treatment. At present this assessment is being carried out and to date it has been found that a high proportion of those assessed either did not need or were not ready for orthodontic treatment. Those needing and ready for it are being placed on a register for orthodontic treatment. There are currently 60 names on this register.
