Vol. 334 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Health Programmes Switches.

14.

asked the Minister for Health the switches in the programmes provided for in the health estimates arising from the extra provisions contained in the Financial Statement of 25 March 1982; and the net additional impact on the overdrafts of the health boards.

It is not possible as yet to state precisely all the changes in the estimated non-capital expenditures on programmes and services, as set out in the Appendix to the Health Estimate for 1982. This can more appropriately be after the health boards have taken decisions on the changes that can be made in their services budgets taking into consideration the extra funds which have been notified to them. They are at present considering this situation.

While health boards will now be in a position to incur expenditure in excess of what would have been possible on the basis of the expenditure allocations approved last January and so avoid drastic curtailment of essential services, it is not expected that this should result in any significant increase in the overdrafts of the boards in the course of the year as compared with what the situation would have been if additional funds had not been made available.
