asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will take whatever steps are necessary to restore a telephone service to a person (details supplied) in Dublin who operates his business from his home as his line is at present out of order and was out of order on a number of previous occasions.

The fault, which is in the underground cable, will be repaired within the next few days. Because of the number of such faults, which require attention by specially trained staff, I regret that there has been delay in repairing them.

608.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will provide a telephone service for a person (details supplied) in Templeogue, Dublin; and if he will explain the delay in providing such a service having regard to the fact that the applicant applied for a transfer of service some time ago, that both addresses are serviced by the same telephone exchange and that the two houses are only a short distance apart.

Service will be provided within the next month or so. It was not possible to provide service earlier because of a shortage of engineering plant to serve the new address and the large volume of engineering work on hands and requiring attention in the Dublin area.

Telephone service at the address quoted has been transferred to the company named.

Additional lines will be provided as soon as possible but it is unlikely that it will be possible to do so before the end of the year.

Service has been provided.

It was not possible to provide service earlier because of a fault on the cable.

It is normal practice to offer a refund when the installation of the telephone cannot be completed within three months of date of payment; this does not add to the time taken to provide service.

614.

617.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he is aware that workmen from his Department dug three holes in the footpath outside a house (details supplied) in County Dublin some time ago leaving the footpath in a very dangerous condition which is particularly serious at night; if immediate steps will be taken to put guards on the holes or to have them re-filled; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The excavations in question were not made by staff of my Department.

618.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he is aware that an applicant (details supplied) in Dublin is waiting six years for a telephone; if he will give priority to this application; and, if so, when the application will be met.

It is expected that service will be provided for the person named, who made application in July 1978, within about a year.

Yes. It is expected that the work will be carried out next year. When it is completed it will be possible to attend to some 15 waiting applications.

624.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when he expects to carry out the additional engineering work which is necessary to enable applications for telephones in the village of Dunboyne, County Meath, to be met; and the nature of the works involved.

Local cabling work is expected to be completed next year.

625.

Mr. Bruton

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs his plans to carry out additional engineering work to enable applicants for telephones in the Culmullen, Cultromer, Woodtown and Curraghtown areas near Drumree, County Meath, to have telephones connected; the nature of the works involved; and when they will be completed.
