Vol. 335 No. 4

Written Answers. - Grant to Women's Aid.

92.

asked the Minister for the Environment when the £5,000 grant which was approved by Dublin Corporation for Women's Aid will be paid.

I understand that on 15 April 1982 the Corporation made a contribution of £5,000 to the funds of Women's Aid.

On 22 March 1982 my Department approved of the making of the contribution on the basis of the established deficits of this voluntary body. The payment was conditional on consultation by the corporation with the other public bodies concerned to ensure that overlapping is avoided.

To minimise such overlapping in the future it is proposed to adopt the following arrangements, with effect from 1 January 1983:— (1) Assistance by housing authorities under section 12 of the Housing Act, 1966, to Women's Aid should be restricted to work relating to the provision of additional self-contained housing accommodation by way of building, purchase, improvement or conversion; and (2) Assistance in respect of the proposed refuge, which will be provided by the health board and operated by Women's Aid, would be a matter for the health board and the Department of Health.
