Vol. 335 No. 4

Written Answers. - Brucellosis Eradication.

390.

asked the Minister for Agriculture the steps being taken to control and eliminate the serious and persistent outbreaks of brucellosis in Fenor, County Waterford; and if he will take special measures to compensate those farmers who have suffered heavy losses.

In terms of national and county brucellosis incidence the position in the Fenor area is reasonably good at present. A special check test of this area was carried out in the latter half of 1981 and the situation is now regarded as being well under control as far as brucellosis is concerned.

To the extent that they qualify for compensation under the hardship fund, herdowners who have suffered losses because of brucellosis and/or TB are recompensed from the fund.
