Vol. 335 No. 4

Written Answers. - Telephone Service.

504.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when a telephone will be provided for an elderly couple (details supplied) in Dublin who are most anxious to obtain service so that they can keep in touch with their family who are abroad.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when he expects to have a circuit available to link the Drumree area of County Meath to the telex exchange so that a telex may be installed in any business in the area which wishes to have one.

Each telex installation requires a separate circuit to connect it to the appropriate telex exchange which for subscribers in the Drumree area is the Dublin telex exchange. There is only one applicant for telex in the Drumree area and it is expected that service will be offered to this applicant within the next four months or so.

507.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when a telephone service will be provided for senior citizens (details supplied) in Dublin who need service for medical reasons.

Service will be provided as soon as possible but it is unlikely that it will be possible to do so for about a year.

514.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he is aware of complaints from people in the "259" exchange area of County Meath in regard to difficulty in obtaining a reply from "10"; and if this is a problem general to all people in the "01" area or if there are special problems in the "259" part of the "01" area.

There are no special problems with the "10" service in the "259" exchange area nor is there a high level of complaint from subscribers in the area at present. In general, calls to the Dublin "10" service are answered quickly but delay in answering some calls can arise during peak day traffic periods. In addition, the standard of service at night was below standard earlier in the year but action has been taken to deal with this.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when a telephone service will be provided for a person (details supplied) in Dublin who has been allocated a telephone number but who has not yet been able to obtain service.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when the mobile exchange promised for the Crumlin, Walkinstown and Drimnagh areas, Dublin will be made available; and when the permanent exchange will be built.

Two mobile exchanges to serve these areas will be provided later this year, one in July and the other about October. It is hoped that the permanent exchange building will be completed in Autumn 1983. Allowing the installation and testing of equipment, the permanent exchange should be in service within a year of that date.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when a telephone service will be provided for persons (details supplied) in Dublin 12 who have submitted serious medical evidence in support of their case for a telephone service.

Service will be provided as soon as possible. Regrettably, however, it is unlikely that the necessary cabling work can be completed for about a year.

631.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the reason for the delay in installing a telephone for a person (details supplied) in County Waterford; and when it will be installed.

It has not been possible to provide service for the person named so far because of the large volume of engineering work on hands and requiring attention in the Waterford area.

It is expected that service will be provided within about a month.
