Vol. 335 No. 4

Written Answers. - Buncrana (Donegal) Employment Exchange.

789.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare whether he is aware of the lack of facilities at the employment exchange at Buncrana, County Donegal, because of which applicants have to queue out-of-doors in all weather; and if he will expedite proposals before his Department for the provision of a new exchange with adequate facilities.

My Department's employment office in Buncrana, is run by a branch manager who is obliged by the terms of the contract of his employment to provide suitable office accommodation. The accommodation provided for the public at the office is considered to be generally adequate having regard to the number of persons who attend there. There have been, however, some queueing problems at the office on Thursday mornings when a relatively large number of applicants attend to collect their payments of unemployment assistance. To meet the difficulties, arrangements are now being made for some of these applicants to attend instead on Thursday afternoon.
