asked the Minister for Social Welfare the reason for the nonpayment of unemployment assistance to a person (details supplied) in County Waterford.

The person concerned exhausted his title to unemployment benefit on 4 May 1982 on the completion of 390 days after which he claimed unemployment assistance. The claim was referred to a social welfare officer for investigation and following the completion of inquiries he was assessed with means of £0.35 derived from the value of capital. His unemployment assistance claim has been allowed at the weekly rate of £63.40 being the maximum rate £63.75 less means £0.35 and arrangements have been made to pay all arrears due to him this week.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the reason for the nonpayment of unemployment assistance to a person (details supplied) in County Waterford.

The unemployment assistance claim of the person concerned was refused on the grounds that his means, derived from the income of his farm, exceeded the statutory limit. The person concerned has appealed against the assessment of his means and his case has been referred again to a social welfare officer for additional inquiries. When these are finalised his case will be referred to an appeals officer for determination.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the present position in relation to the receipt of an unemployment allowance by a person (details supplied) in County Galway.

The person concerned is presently in receipt of unemployment assistance at the weekly rate of £39.55 being the maximum rate payable to a married man with one qualified child residing in a non-urban area, £50.50 less means of £10.95. He has been issued with a form to enable him to claim an increase in respect of an additional child. On return of the completed form his rate of payment will be adjusted. As he has acquired land his case has been referred to a social welfare officer for investigation. The means assessed against him will be reviewed in the light of the outcome of the investigation.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if PRSI payments will be made to a person (details supplied) in County Galway in addition to the disability benefit he receives at present.

The person concerned claimed disability benefit from 23 March 1981 and has been paid all such benefit due to 5 June 1982. In order to establish her entitlement to pay-related benefit the claimant was requested to furnish details of her earnings in 1979-80 the tax year relevant to her claim but she failed to reply to the inquiries. It has since been ascertained from the inspector of taxes, Galway, that she had sufficient earnings in that year to qualify for payment of pay-related benefit. A cheque for the amount of pay-related benefit due from 6 April 1981, 13th day of incapacity, to 5 June 1982 was issued on 1 June 1982.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the present position in relation to the payment of unemployment assistance to a person (details supplied) in County Galway.

The unemployment assistance claim of the person concerned was disallowed for six weeks from 7 April 1982 on the grounds that she was not genuinely seeking employment. She did not appeal against the disqualification. Payment of unemployment assistance was resumed from 19 May 1982 and she is presently in receipt of weekly payment of £25.35 being the maximum rate payable to her —£25.45 less means £0.10.

(Dublin North-Central) asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will arrange for a reply to Deputy Vincent Brady's letters of 22 March and 1 April to be issued by the employment exchange at North Cumberland St. regarding representations on behalf of a person (details supplied) in Clontarf, Dublin 3.

The position regarding the signing arrangements in the case of the person concerned was explained in a recent reply to the Deputy's representations. However, in the light of a review of his case the person concerned has been allowed to revert to once weekly signing. He has been informed accordingly.
