A proposal for improvement works at Cromane has been drawn up and a 75 per cent State grant has been offered to Kerry County Council towards the cost involved.
However, in view of the recent acquisition of a mussel dredger by the local co-operative society the suitability of the proposed scheme is being reconsidered and the fishermen are being consulted in order to ascertain the facility most suitable to their needs.

asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry if he has any proposals for improvements at Valentia Harbour, County Kerry.
I recently received a submission from the Kerry County Council Development Team containing proposals for the development of Valentia Harbour. Pending a full examination of these proposals I cannot say what works, if any, will be undertaken in the fisheries interest.
Any proposals for the development of Valentia Harbour will have to be considered in the light of the extensive harbour scheme nearing completion at Cahirciveen.

asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry if he will improve landing facilities at Magherees, County Kerry.
The landing place for the Magherees is Scraggane Pier. In 1979 work was completed on an improvement scheme at Scraggane, including an extension of the pier. This Department provided a grant covering 75 per cent of the cost of the scheme. A further grant in respect of additional minor works was made available in 1980. This Department has no plans for further development at Scraggane.

asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry his proposals in relation to Fenit Harbour, County Kerry.
My Department made a 75 per cent grant to the Tralee and Fenit Harbour Commissioners towards the cost of the dredging of Fenit Harbour in the fisheries interest. This work was recently completed and the Department have no proposals for any further marine works at Fenit which is primarily a commercial harbour.
