Vol. 337 No. 5

Written Answers. - Redundancy Payments.

462.

asked the Minister for Labour if he is aware that the workforce which became redundant after the closure of a factory (details supplied) in the Gaeltacht has still not been paid any redundancy money, that the factory has been closed for over two months now and that the people concerned are very anxious to get their money, and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Payment of redundancy lump sums to workers under the Redundancy Payments Acts is primarily a matter for the employer. However where the employer fails to pay, the payments may be made from the Redundancy Fund established under the Acts. Applications from a number of workers in the firm concerned for payment of redundancy lump sums from the fund have recently been received by my Department. These are being investigated as a matter of priority by the Department and arrangements will be made to pay any lump sums to which the workers are entitled under the Acts.
