Vol. 337 No. 11

Written Answers. - Rockall Island.

87.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs the Government's attitude to the ownership of Rockall Island.

The Deputy will recall from previous replies to questions on this matter that the Irish and British Governments have agreed to refer the delimination of the continental shelf to an independent settlement of dispute procedure in the form of ad hoc arbitration. The status of Rockall is, of course, one of the many complex issues which have to be resolved by the court of arbitration. It would be inappropriate for me at this stage to go into any of the details of the case which Ireland will be putting forward before the court since this could prejudice Ireland's case and the eventual outcome.
