Vol. 338 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Written Answers. - Custom House Quay (Dublin) Site.

155.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he is aware that the planning permission granted by An Bord Pleanála to the Dublin Port and Docks Board for the 27-acre site at Custom House Quay will considerably increase the value of that site to the board; the method by which it is intended to arrive at the purchase price of that site in order to develop it in accordance with the arrangement between Deputies Haughey and Gregory-Independent announced in the Dáil on 9 March 1982; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

It would be inappropriate for me to comment on the effect of the outline permission which has been granted by An Bord Pleanála on the value of the site referred to, given the fact that, in accordance with section 8 of the Urban Development Areas Bill, 1982, I may be involved at a later stage in determining the price to be paid for the site. The method by which it is intended to arrive at the purchase price of the site is set out in that section of the Bill, that is, either by agreement between the Dublin Port and Docks Board and the proposed Urban Development Commission, or, failing agreement, by a determination made by the Minister for the Environment, with the consent of the Minister for Transport. The criteria on which such a determination must be made are set out in section 8(3) of the Bill. I might add that I have undertaken to give further consideration to these criteria and I will be indicating the outcome of that consideration when the Committee Stage of the Bill is taken in this House.
