Vol. 338 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Written Answers. - South County Dublin Roads.

159.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will state his short- and long-term intentions with an indication of the likely time-scale in regard to the improvement of the road network in south County Dublin, with particular reference to the area around Dundrum and to the construction of a north-south road by-passing Dundrum village and the Sandyford Road, which are now experiencing both extreme congestion and conditions dangerous for children and other pedestrians.

I would remind the Deputy that the preparation of proposals for such road improvements is the responsibility of Dublin County Council.

As regards short-term schemes, I understand that in their road works scheme for 1982 the council have provided for an £80,000 road improvement scheme in the vicinity of Sandyford Road and for other works costing £146,100 at various other locations in the Dundrum area. It rests with the council to decide whether to proceed with all or part of these schemes under their road works programme towards which there is available a block grant of £727,000 this year.

In regard to the longer term schemes, approval issued on 23 July 1982 to Dublin County Council's proposals for a by-pass of Dundrum and its associated roads. The council's detailed plans for these schemes are awaited.
