Vol. 340 No. 7

Written Answers. - Proposed Education Cuts Effects.

576.

asked the Minister for Education the schools in the Dublin South constituency in which it is expected that there will be a loss of (a) career guidance teachers; (b) clerical assistants; (c) vice-principals and (d) other staff as a result of the proposed education cuts; and the number involved in each case.

I would refer the Deputy to my reply to questions Nos. 1 and 3 of 23 February 1983 dealing with the matter of the appointment of teachers in secondary, vocational, comprehensive and community schools.

I am not in a position to state what arrangements school authorities in Dublin South constituency will make in relation to the appointment of teachers in their respective schools in 1983-84. There will, of course, be no reduction in the number of vice-principal posts and I do not accept the implication in the question that suitable arrangements will not continue to be made for guidance teaching in all schools in the area in question. Posts as clerical assistants will be phased out only as vacancies occur. I am not in a position to state in which schools such vacancies may occur or the number of such vacancies.
