There were 2,213 persons on the live register in the local employment offices in County Carlow on 25 February 1983. At the corresponding date in 1982 (26 February), the figure was 1,567.

The number of persons on the live register in all local employment offices in Kilkenny city and county on 25 February 1983 was 2,833. Of these, 1,286 persons were registered in Kilkenny city employment exchange. On 26 February 1982, the corresponding totals were 2,055 and 847 respectively.
