Vol. 341 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions . Oral Answers . - Swords (Dublin) Redundancies .

8.

asked the Minister for Industry and Energy the action he is taking to save the jobs of the workers in Plessey Ireland Ltd., Swords, County Dublin, who face redundancy following the decision of the company to close the plant.

: Despite the reportedly irrevocable nature of Plessey Ireland Limited's recent decision to close its Swords plant, I have asked the Industrial Development Authority to continue their efforts to find a suitable joint venture partner for the firm.

Since mid-1980, the IDA have identified several such prospective partners for the firm with a view to the manufacture of new products to replace the largely obsolete relays being made at its Swords plant. None of the projects proposed by potential partners has yet proved acceptable to Plessey Ireland Limited.
