Vol. 341 No. 11

Written Answers . - County Galway Geological Survey .

616.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will authorise the Commissioners of Public Works to commission a geological survey of the Carst area of County Galway within a five mile radius of the town of Gort in order to provide comprehensive information on the ground water structure of the area as a preliminary to drainage in the area, this survey to be carried out by the Geological Survey Office or by the geological department of a third level college, as drainage for agricultural purposes in this area has been impossible because of the amount of underground water courses which are in the area.

: As the area in question does not form part of any of the listed priority catchments in the arterial drainage programme, the Commissioners of Public Works have no proposals to undertake the survey referred to within the foreseeable future.
