asked the Minister for the Environment the current rate of water charges levied by each county Council; the method of collection by each council; if all householders in rural areas are included; the categories of householders exempted; if houses which have a private water supply are included; if any county council impose any other general charges; if so, the councils; and if he will give details of such charges.
Written Answers. - County Council Charges.
While particulars of current charges are not available in my Department attached is a tabular statement setting out the most up-to-date information furnished by the county councils regarding charges levied by them for (a) domestic water supplies and (b) metered water supplies to non-domestic consumers.
My Department do not have details of the method of collection used by each county council. While details are not available in my Department, I understand that, in general, the water charges apply both to householders and to business premises receiving a public water supply either directly through connection to a public water main or indirectly through a connection to a private group water scheme but not to premises with private water supplies from private sources.
Apart from water charges, county councils ar present may levy charges for a range of the services they provide. Details of the charging practices of individual councils in relation to such services are not available in my Department.
