Vol. 342 No. 1

Written Answers. - Waterford School Grant Payment.

709.

asked the Minister for Finance if outstanding money which is due in respect of St. Stephen's school, Patrick Street, Waterford, and which has been fully certified will be paid in the near future.

The contract for the extension to St. Stephen's national school, Waterford, was in the hands of an architect in private practice who had been engaged by the manager of the school. The Office of Public Works authorised the acceptance of a tender on the basis of agreed contract documents. During the course of the work the manager's architect indicated that a substantial amount of additional work was necessary and on the manager's behalf requested a grant to carry out this work. Some of the additional items were approved but other work was carried out without approval, which may not be eligible for grant.

The draft final account was received on 25 April 1983 and, following a preliminary examination, a substantial payment of grant has been made to the manager of the school. Detailed examination of the accounts and final inspections are necessary before any further payments can be considered.
