Vol. 342 No. 9

Written Answers. - Western Drainage Scheme.

596.

asked the Minister for Agriculture the reason his Department have ignored applications under the western drainage scheme from a person (details supplied) in County Kerry.

An application under the western drainage scheme was received from the person mentioned on 23 December 1981. A recent survey has shown that applications received up to 30 September 1981 can be accommodated within the ceiling of 150,000 hectares provided for in the scheme but it may not be possible to accommodate applications received after that date. Consideration is being given to how best to deal with such applications in the light of the present economic and budgetary position.

597.

asked the Minister for Agriculture the reason no official has called on a person (details supplied) in County Kerry in connection with the western drainage scheme.

This applicant was not at home when an officer from the local Farm Development Service office called on 10 January last to investigate his application under the western drainage scheme. The officer has since been awaiting notification from the applicant of a suitable time to call again.
