Vol. 342 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cork Regional Hospital.

4.

asked the Minister for Health (a) the number of times in 1982 that the diagnostic equipment in the radiology department of Cork Regional Hospital was used by consultants to treat patients not eligible for services free of charge under the Health Acts; (b) the number of staff, nursing and technical required to provide this service; and (c) the estimated cost to the health board of the provision of this service for the consultant radiologist.

I am informed by the Southern Health Board, which is responsible for the administration of the Cork Regional Hospital, that it is not in a position to give the information requested by the Deputy.

I am at present considering the question of the use by consultants of public hospital equipment in their treatment of fee paying/private patients and I intend shortly to make a statement about the matter.
