asked the Minister for Defence the number of civilians employed under the Army Vote; and it such staff are entitled to the same conditions as the staff employed directly by the administration section of his Department.
Written Answers. - Civilian Employees.
581.
There are 1,983 civilians engaged in an unestablished capacity with the Defence Forces. They are employed under the provisions of the Defence Act 1954 and are remunerated from the Defence Vote. Their pay and conditions of service are related generally to the pay and conditions of comparable employees in outside employment.
These employees enjoy a sick pay scheme, a non-contributory pension scheme and a contributory widow's and children's pension scheme which are in general based on comparable benefits for civil servants.
