Vol. 345 No. 3

Written Answers. - Deportation of Non-Nationals.

424.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will arrange to deport all non-nationals who come under suspicion for misbehaviour in this country, including suspicion under the Misuse of Drugs Acts; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Limerick East): I could not give an undertaking of this kind. The mere fact that someone has a suspicion that a person may possibly be in breach of the law would not be an adequate reason for taking an extremely serious measure against him, such as deportation. Moreover, an alien who has resided here for five years may not be deported without three months notice unless he has been sentenced to imprisonment or his deportation has been recommended by a court.
