Vol. 345 No. 4

Written Answers. - Compensation for Trawler Sinking.

238.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if he is aware that compensation has not as yet been paid to the owner of the trawler Sheralga which was sunk by a British submarine 18 months ago; if he is aware of the hardship which has been created in this case; if he is aware of the deliberate delay in finalising this matter; if he is aware of the inadequate offer of compensation made; and if he will make a detailed statement on the matter.

I am aware of the case in question and of the difficulties which have occurred in negotiations between the legal representatives of the owner of the Sheralga and the British authorities. I have made known the Government's desire for a satisfactory and speedy outcome to the case.
