Vol. 345 No. 11

Written Answers. - County Cork Policing Arrangements.

520.

asked the Minister for Justice the reason gardaí are not available for night duty in the Kanturk and Macroom areas of County Cork as this is giving rise to grave concern to the people there.

Limerick East): The precise arrangements for policing particular areas are a matter for the Garda authorities who have informed me that both Kanturk and Macroom stations are manned on a 24-hour basis. I am also informed by the authorities that the patrol car based at Macroom, which is manned by two members, operates on a 24-hour basis and that, while the patrol car based at Kanturk, also manned by two members, does not provide a full 24-hour service, there are arrangements to deal with any emergencies which may arise when the mobile patrol is not in operation.

The Garda authorities consider that the current policing arrangements for both the Kanturk and Macroom areas are reasonably adequate having regard to overall resources and other demands on Garda services.
