Vol. 345 No. 11

Written Answers. - Connemara Water Supply Schemes.

284.

asked the Minister for the Environment the position regarding the proposed Costelloe regional water supply scheme, Connemara, County Galway.

Approval has issued to Galway County Council of the preliminary report for the Costelloe regional water supply scheme. It is a matter for the council to prepare and submit contract documents for the scheme to my Department for examination and approval.

285.

asked the Minister for the Environment the reason for the delay in approving the Cleggan-Claddaghduff group water supply scheme, Connemara, County Galway.

The revised design data for the proposed Claddaghduff group water scheme was forwarded by my Department to Galway County Council on 4 November. On receipt of Galway County Council's approval to the revised design data a certificate of approval provisionally allocating State grants to the group will issue.

286.

asked the Minister for the Environment the reason for the delay in processing group water supply schemes; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Recent experiences in relation to the administration of group schemes have indicated the need for a revision of the procedures of my Department in relation to those schemes, so as to ensure that the grant moneys are being applied to the purposes for which they have been allocated. Arising from the revised procedures some delays may result particularly in relation to payment of final instalments of grants to the groups. Every effort is being made to minimise any such delays and I very much regret any inconvenience which may be caused.
